For a lot of users, I rather suspect that setting 40/10 Mbps would give them entirely sufficient speed, and most existing CPE would be able to keep up with those settings even with all of Cake's bells and whistles turned on.

The trouble is that that might be 10% of what the cable company is advertising to them.
