Subject: [Bloat] Developer/System Administrator Position for Network Performance Study
Date: Thu, 24 Mar 2011 15:45:26 -0400	[thread overview]
Message-ID: <ABD3C2B4-50D8-4606-8B2C-B34EC401A78C@cc.gatech.edu> (raw)

Professors Nick Feamster and Keith Edwards in the College of Computing at Georgia Tech are seeking one research scientist with software development and system administration experience to work on a project at the intersection of home networking and human-computer interaction. The project involves instrumenting home networks with programmable network gateway devices to perform active measurements of network performance (akin to speedtest.net) and to monitor both performance and user behavior inside the home using a combination of active and passive network measurement techniques. The project has a number of upcoming opportunities, including the FCC Open Internet Apps Challenge in mid-June (see http://challenge.gov/challenges/114), for which the candidate would play a key role in application development and infrastructure management. This job opportunity also offers a unique opportunity for someone with system administration and software development experience to gain research experience in a top-tier computer science department.

Starting salary is $60,000 (negotiable), and the position is open for up to three years (and possibly longer, if more funding becomes available). The position is open immediately, and we aim to fill it as soon as possible. Candidates should preferably have the following skills:
	• UNIX system administration experience
	• Web development experience
	• Python, MySQL
	• Software development experience in C/C++
	• Project management experience
	• Experience developing distributed systems (preferred)
	• Experience with network gateway devices (preferred)
	• Desire to participate in research and work with professors, graduate students, and postdocs
	• B.S. degree in computer science or related field

Interested candidates should send a resume to feamster@cc.gatech.edu.
