Stuff that Matters." In his article, "Why Linux Makes Sense for India," he takes a stand that "the localization of Linux to Indian languages can spark a revolution that reaches down to the grassroots levels of the country. The Indianization of Linux is probably one of the most practical ways of making Information Technology (IT) available to millions and millions of Indians. It is now up to linguistic and technical groups to collaborate and make things happen.=E2=80=9D Venky took that mission into his owns hands and with a colleague, Prakash Advani, started IndLinux.org in 2000 with the goal of localizing Linux into different Indian dialects. The Open Source project and many linguistic groups and developers across the country worked to enable Linux and open source software in 22 Indian languages today. He remains passionate about Open Source. *=E2=80=9CMy philosophy is that collaboration, community and the shared own= ership of knowledge can lead to a better world, and Open Source is the best example of this. The big challenges that humanity faces such as climate change, can be solved only through collaboration,=E2=80=9D Venky shares. = =E2=80=9CIt is very inspiring to see how far Open Source has come in the last two decades, from a niche phenomenon to the new normal, with people around the world collaborating across geographies, time zones, caste, creed and color. In emerging areas like big data, blockchain etc., the growth of technology has been driven by the collaborative innovation model of open source, which brings the best minds in the world together.=E2=80=9D* To further his mission to democratize access to knowledge, Venky works in several capacities with industry, academia and government to enable a free and open Internet ecosystem. He joined Open Invention Network in 2015 as the India Representative and has recruited community member businesses in Consumer Services, Commercial & Professional Services, Computer Software, Networking & Security, Retail & eCommerce. When Venky is not working, he is giving back to his community as a volunteer with the Indian Software Product Industry Roundtable (iSPIRT), which builds Public Digital Infrastructures such as IndiaStack and mentors a few startups. Previously, Venky worked for Google India as Head of Public Policy and Government Affairs, and Red Hat as Corporate Affairs Director (Asia Pacific). While at home with his wife, he is most often found reading fiction, biographies, history, business books and anything about animals. Gerald Durell and James Herriot are his two favorite authors. He also loves movies, travelling, trekking and good food. *06 | **FUN FACT* A single semiconductor chip has as many transistors as all of the stones in the Great Pyramid in Giza. Venkatesh Hariharan

Outreach Lead, India

A former journalist educated at Massachusett= s Institute of Technology (MIT), Venkatesh Hariharan =E2=80=94 otherwise kn= own as Venky by those who know him =E2=80=94 discovered Open Source while r= esearching and writing an article for Slashdot, a social news=C2=A0website = that originally billed itself as "News for Nerds. Stuff that Matters.&= quot; In his article, "Why Linux Makes Sense for India,"= =C2=A0 he takes a stand that "the localization of Linux to = Indian languages can spark a revolution that reaches down to the grassroots= levels of the country. The Indianization of Linux is probably one of the m= ost practical ways of making Information Technology (IT) available to milli= ons and millions of Indians. It is now up to linguistic and technical group= s to collaborate and make things happen.=E2=80=9D

Venky took that mission into his owns hands and with a colleague, Prakash A= dvani, started IndLinux.org in 2000 with the goal of localizing Li= nux into different Indian dialects. The Open Source project and many lingui= stic groups and developers across the country worked to enable Linux and op= en source software in 22 Indian languages today. He remains passionate abou= t Open Source.
=C2=A0
=E2=80=9CMy philosophy is that collaboration, community and the= shared ownership of knowledge can lead to a better world, and Open Source = is the best example of this. The big challenges that humanity faces such as= climate change, can be solved only through collaboration,=E2=80=9D Venky s= hares. =E2=80=9CIt is very inspiring to see how far Open Source has come in= the last two decades, from a niche phenomenon to the new normal,=C2=A0with= people around the world collaborating across geographies,=C2=A0time zones,= caste, creed and color. In emerging areas like big data, blockchain etc., = the growth of technology has been driven by the collaborative innovation mo= del of open source, which brings the best minds in the world together.=E2= =80=9D
=C2=A0
To further his mission to democratize access to knowledge, Venky works in s= everal capacities with industry, academia and government to enable a free a= nd open Internet ecosystem. He joined Open Invention Network in 2015 as the= India Representative and has recruited community member businesses in Cons= umer Services, Commercial & Professional Services, Computer Software, N= etworking & Security, Retail & eCommerce.
=C2=A0
When Venky is not working, he is giving back to his community as a voluntee= r with the Indian Software Product Industry Roundtable (iSPIRT), which buil= ds Public Digital Infrastructures such as IndiaStack and mentors a= few startups. Previously, Venky worked for Google India as Head of Public = Policy and Government Affairs, and Red Hat as Corporate Affairs Director (A= sia Pacific). While at home with his wife, he is most often found reading f= iction, biographies, history, business books and=C2=A0 anything about anima= ls.=C2=A0 Gerald Durell and James Herriot are his two favorite authors.
