Ah, cool; we already had a mention of this the other day, but didn't see
the announcement or discussion.
Opened an issue to request bloat tests:
https://github.com/cloudflare/worker-speedtest-template/issues/13 if
anyone wants to go and chime in (or bug the developers, they seem to be
active in that hnews thread...

I am of course, always interested in how they are measuring latency, and where.

They don't seem to be adding more latency measurements once the download tests begin. So in effect they are only measuring idle latency.

Jonathan, if you download the csv of the results, it seems to have latency metrics interspersed with the payloads, but since I run Cake on all the time, can’t really see much of a change in latencies ;-)
And one more hearty vote for an upload test with latency under load metrics as well.
And thanks Cloudflare for making the details of the test retrievable for further analysis or historical record keeping.
Cheers,
Jonathan Foulkes

Yup, but they do seem to be amenable to fixing that:
https://github.com/cloudflare/worker-speedtest-template/issues/13
As for where the latency is measured to, it seems to be HTTP 'pings' to
the nearest Cloudflare CDN endpoint.

We're definitely open to changing the speed test. It's being actively
worked on. Issues through GitHub probably the best way to engage, but I'm
happy to get direct email also.

Dear John:
I am primarily an email person. But if github is the best way to
engage, we can do that.
My own bugaboo is that it helps a LOT to verify your test is measuring
what you think it is, via using another tool. In
our case that's flent (typically the rrul test), which gives correct
results past 10Gbit. Most of the web browser based tests
start to struggle > 200mbit.
I'd so LOVE to be able to put the basic requirements for flent
(netperf and irtt) on more servers around the world...

Yeah. I agree on the measurement. I have the same issue. My home Internet
is 1Gbps fiber and getting that right is important. The team currently
knows that they need to make me happy.
