I assume this is a hook that OpenWRT puts into the firmware, not
something added by CeroWRT.  I wonder if they'll keep it in the code:

It is indeed from upstream, and it's fairly general, with several providers available. You can even put in your own url schemes. I use it to update my he.net tunnel endpoint, for instance. I do believe he also offers dynamic dns, albeit it's bring your own domain name... :)

I would hope they keep it there. Even if I wound up paying for the account, I'd still want to give my home network a static domain name.

and home routers,
located in our cloud infrastructure. still testing clients
