Hello everyone I'm having trouble with the actiontec router supplied by
Verizon fios, since I have the bundle service of TV and Internet I need the
fios router to be able to watch on demand but I ran into a problem. It's
that when I made the ont box go Ethernet to be able to use my wndr3800
running cerowrt on it to reduce buffer bloat and so I plugged an Ethernet
cable to one of the Lan port of the wndr3800 to the WAN port of the
actiontec it would seem that the set top boxes don't get a signal and when
I click on the remote to check diagnostic it says that the external network
is down and we'll I have question is there anything I have to do special
for the actiontec to get Internet connection to the stb?

The wan port of cero should be plugged into the the lan port of the actiontec,
not the reverse.

You probably want to configure the actiontec as a bridge in this instance
if it isn't already.

It is rather complex, you have to make the FIOS router act as a double bridge.
One bridge passes traffic from outside via COAX (ONT) to one RJ45 (CAT5) to WDR3800
Other bridge passes traffic from another WDR3800 port back to coax network to set top box

Does this help?

Well Stephen I did tried that with a guide from the forums of dsl reports
as they have a guide about various router configuration and it's trade offs
for them and I have tried the double bridge but it seems like it does not
work because when I tried the Internet and go on Web pages it works and all
but when I tried to use on demand on the stb it says that your stb is
offline and I power cycle them for the stb to get a refresh of the ip
address because they always requesting the ip of 192.168.1.100. But I might
try again with the guide you gave me and report back on my findings.

And Dave I am currently using cero that way, the WAN port of cero is
connected through the Lan port of the actiontec but if I try to bridge the
actiontec I will lose on demand.

http://www.dslreports.com/faq/16077

That's the Web page that has the various router configuration and it's
trade offs. And I was trying to do the one where I plug the Ethernet cable
from the ONT to cero WAN port and plug another cable from cero WAN port to
the Lan port of the actiontec

FWIW I've seen a similar setup where TV is provided by a set-top box
that connects via the internet connection. I managed for a while to get
it to work, but the provider has since changed the setup so the set-top
box only works when plugged directly into the provider-supplied router.

What did work for a while was proxying IGMP traffic from the LAN side of
the cerowrt box. The set-top box worked by subscribing to a multicast
stream in the provider's network, and having cerowrt proxy the
subscription requests worked (for a while). Theoretically, pimd should
do this, but as I recall I had to switch to igmpproxy to get it to work.

This was not on-demand, but rather streaming IPTV, so it might be a
different setup for you. Just thought I'd mention it as a data point... :)

Ok everyone good news! I've managed to make cero the primary router with
ethernet from ont to cero then from the lan port of cero to the wan port of
the actiontec and I checked on the stb and I am able to go to video on
demand with no problem at all! Because I would rather much have the
wndr3800 route all the traffic and not actiontec! so thanks everyone for
your cooperation! :D

Some capabilities context might be helpful.

The Verizon STBs these days have ethernet ports but they're disabled in
the OS and unused, so they can only get data via MoCa on coax. Thus a
semi-supported configuration from Verizon is to set their router as just
another client device on the LAN, where it acts as a MoCa bridge. The
WAN port of the ActionTec is used here. You can disable the wireless on
the ActionTec.

This gets you working on-demand and program guide information, but you
do lose out on all of the tablet remote access features for watching
DVR'd shows and so forth. The newer functions all require the ActionTec
to be the network router (so bridge mode won't cut it, AFAIK).

Myself, I have cat5 delivery of Internet via FiOS going into a WNDR3800
(running OpenWRT right now) and an ActionTec set up as a client device
MoCa bridge.
