	You could try the following:
scp /path/to /the/sysupgrade/image.bin root@gw.home.lan:/tmp
ssh root@gw.home.lan
cd /tmp
sysupgrade -n -d 60 -v ./image.bin

(basically adding requesting sysupgrade to be more verbose… that might give a clue why things fail)
