The Intel X520 based on the 82599 chip is the gold standard IMO, 
although Intel tries to lock out non-Intel optics (which, 
coincidentally, are cheaper). The public manual for the 82599 is helpful 
in understanding what's going on.

It looks like the net gen XL710 is about to be announced in two weeks, 
though.
