... but me, in particular, would really like to find an ONT that runs
fq_codel natively I could recommend.

Can the the thermal envelope for an SFP truly accommodate traffic shaping?
I’m thinking not at the current state of CPU art. Would be delighted to be
wrong.

Certainly not. My point was that one could connect an SFP to a system that has a CPU where the shaping could be performed.

The simplest possible thing is SFP on an OLT that actually sends
ethernet pause frames when the local buffer has enough data, which
so far as I can tell from looking at GPON specs is about 250us . That
would let a router on the other side of it, just run good ole fq_codel
+ BQL without needing any shaping there. That exist?
