My main point is about the issues where the practical meets the academic.

In the academic, you are exactly right - but what I'm seeing in this very 
thread is that "ARED beats CoDel and PIE in this one specific measure on a 
symmetric transport, which indicates that we should study this more deeply" 
is treated in the _practical_ domain as strong evidence that nothing more 
than ARED is needed.

In the practical domain, FQ is hugely relevant. In the practical domain, 
asymmetry is hugely relevant. In the practical domain, ARED++ and ARED are 
sufficiently different beasts that conflating them may be quite harmful.

And seen by someone from the practical domain who wasn't aware of the 
setting in which you were operating, your results were read as a statement 
that ARED (without FQ, and seemingly not ARED++) was very likely sufficient 
for an asymmetric, variable-load, cross-traffic-heavy deployment at internet 
scale.

My original post really was very much more disputing Bob Briscoe's 
extrapolations from your results than the validity or importance of the 
results themselves.
