A big step forward for FarPlay
Announcing FarPlay 1.0, with multi-user support, built-in video,
multi-track recording, multi-channel Broadcast Output, and more

It's been quite a journey! When Anton Runov and I started working on
FarPlay in early 2021, we didn't know what the road ahead would bring. We
just knew that we wanted to make ultra-low-latency audio accessible to
everyone.
Now, 18 months later, we're announcing FarPlay 1.0
<https://8jciv.r.ag.d.sendibm3.com/mk/cl/f/uChhSD_18S7NxzUbn050DSoTm6na5o5wsRlKq4B_LrM8PK6J0L1gH6Y6cR83aeaqGaT8JHKOgeLw6BgyHDKmM0Eb44yOR7LxWOy0nNe-yunQgEuQs6GfkNY6v757pBOstmwaj-EM4_8vClaihf28IPZWtCB0-SKls6SML8ar2ATThZ48zsUJhsDtPGcaScZt7BnF>,
the first non-beta version and one that we've been dreaming of for a long
time. With this version, you can connect *multiple users* in different
locations, not just two as you could before. How many? That depends on the
strength of your internet connection, but groups of 4 to 8 players should
be able to connect without issue.
FarPlay 1.0 also features *built-in video*, so there's no longer any need
to open a separate video-conferencing solution alongside FarPlay. What's
more, our built-in video is low-latency, so it syncs up nicely with our
ultra-low-latency sound.
How about recording? With a subscription, you can now make *multi-track
recordings* of your sessions. Connect with friends in separate locations,
hit the record button, choose “record multitrack”, and at the end of your
session you'll have perfectly synced studio-quality tracks for each
musician, which you can mix to perfection in a DAW. What's more, these
tracks are recorded with a much longer buffer than the audio you hear in
your headphones, so they'll feature clean audio even when the audio in your
headphones may have occasional static as a result of pushing for the lowest
monitoring latency.
Our *buffering mechanism* has been redesigned from the ground up, with
several improvements. FarPlay is now expert at setting your latency
automatically, to the point that for situations where latency isn't
critical — podcast interviews, theater rehearsals, or general conversation
— FarPlay now works beautifully over WiFi. When playing music together,
especially rhythmic music, ethernet is still essential. The new buffering
system also enables extremely accurate real-world latency measurements.
Finally, we've implemented *multi-channel Broadcast Output*, which allows
you to output clean multi-channel audio *in real-time* to a DAW of your
choice, where you can mix it for livestream performances.
There are a number of other improvements under the hood, and we also have a
fully redesigned website

.
Subscriptions
Now that we're out of beta, we're offering three subscription tiers
<https://8jciv.r.ag.d.sendibm3.com/mk/cl/f/rwaWKNYaEm7nJ1JnE5WBXrAZ1TTMWP7YhAiZqetvRyn1Je0bbQf_bYJ36T9nEs5YxDQvJhpxAAqpSmCVpMROBPUftO-IFfxXB_yn9KONUa6c6PXT4hn3t8ejkfZWEjYX0_a8D9MmQgeGgYW2MftgsIbJPeXmltmuHq7smVgefuw9TOrPeAAIwEpt16PRdT4c0AB6MbEtKA>
for FarPlay. There's *FarPlay Free*, which allows one-to-one connections
for up to 45 minutes per session and will always be free. There's *FarPlay
Standard*, which for $5.99/month allows unlimited multi-user sessions and
mix recording (note that only the person creating the session needs a
subscription; if you're a teacher, there's no need for your students to get
subscriptions unless they want to create their own unlimited sessions or
make their own recordings). Finally, our *Standard+* tier, at $7.99/month,
features all of the above plus multi-track recording and multi-channel
Broadcast Output. All our plans come with the first month free. These
prices are substantially lower than our competition, and we offer a number
of features that you won't find anywhere else. We also have the lowest
latency in the business.
We will keep honoring your existing free Beta subscription until it
expires. In fact, as long as you created your account before August 1st,
you'll be able to renew your Beta subscription until August 10th. For new
users, the free Beta subscription button goes away August 1st.
Thank you
Thank you for being a part of the FarPlay journey thus far! We hope you
enjoy using the app as much as we do. Happy connections,
—Dan and the FarPlay team
