If implemented, these rules will make it harder to defend open source software (OSS) against bad patents in the hands of patent trolls.

BACKGROUND & IMPACT

OIN & other open source supporters — IBM, Microsoft & The Linux Foundation — funded Unified Patents’ Open Source Zone in 2019. Since then, this program has challenged dozens of poor-quality, open-source related patents with excellent success.
