Hi All,

I've added responses per second (rps) to iperf 2 bounceback test (see man page). Below is an example of a run where the WiFi had no competition then two other WiFi nodes started using the network at 11 seconds in. The low duty cycle RPS traffic RPS dropped from ~250 per second to ~40 per second in this example.

The idea is to have a low duty cycle TCP bounceback against an operational network to monitor its network responsiveness. There is no working conditions so to speak except for the actual traffic competing for air and for TXOPs.

[root@ctrl1fc35 iperf2-code]# src/iperf -c 192.168.1.232 --bounceback=10 -i 1 -e --bounceback-period 1 -t 20
------------------------------------------------------------
Client connecting to 192.168.1.232, TCP port 5001 with pid 412116 (1 flows)
Write buffer size: 100 Byte
Bursting: 100 Byte writes 10 times every 1.00 second(s)
Bounce-back test (size= 100 Byte) (server hold req=0 usecs)
TOS set to 0x0 and nodelay (Nagle off)
TCP window size: 16.0 KByte (default)
------------------------------------------------------------
[ 1] local 192.168.1.15%enp2s0 port 60944 connected with 192.168.1.232 port 5001 (bb len/hold=100/0) (sock=3) (icwnd/mss/irtt=14/1448/5145) (ct=5.24 ms) on 2022-07-29 11:56:44 (PDT)
[ ID] Interval Transfer Bandwidth BB cnt=avg/min/max/stdev Rtry Cwnd/RTT RPS
[ 1] 0.00-1.00 sec 1.95 KBytes 16.0 Kbits/sec 10=4.020/3.020/4.913/0.457 ms 0 14K/4201 us 248 rps
[ 1] 1.00-2.00 sec 1.95 KBytes 16.0 Kbits/sec 10=3.871/2.719/4.220/0.434 ms 0 14K/3905 us 257 rps
[ 1] 2.00-3.00 sec 1.95 KBytes 16.0 Kbits/sec 10=3.970/2.832/4.852/0.496 ms 0 14K/3868 us 251 rps
[ 1] 3.00-4.00 sec 1.95 KBytes 16.0 Kbits/sec 10=3.896/2.826/4.320/0.406 ms 0 14K/3830 us 256 rps
[ 1] 4.00-5.00 sec 1.95 KBytes 16.0 Kbits/sec 10=4.005/2.702/5.384/0.644 ms 0 14K/3866 us 249 rps
[ 1] 5.00-6.00 sec 1.95 KBytes 16.0 Kbits/sec 10=3.860/2.467/4.280/0.519 ms 0 14K/3811 us 258 rps
[ 1] 6.00-7.00 sec 1.95 KBytes 16.0 Kbits/sec 10=3.970/2.715/4.981/0.551 ms 0 14K/3837 us 251 rps
[ 1] 7.00-8.00 sec 1.95 KBytes 16.0 Kbits/sec 10=3.872/2.584/4.152/0.461 ms 0 14K/3807 us 257 rps
[ 1] 8.00-9.00 sec 1.95 KBytes 16.0 Kbits/sec 10=3.993/2.706/5.315/0.621 ms 0 14K/3846 us 250 rps
[ 1] 9.00-10.00 sec 1.95 KBytes 16.0 Kbits/sec 10=3.882/2.926/4.120/0.342 ms 0 14K/3821 us 257 rps
[ 1] 10.00-11.00 sec 1.95 KBytes 16.0 Kbits/sec 10=3.797/2.807/4.878/0.654 ms 0 14K/3664 us 262 rps
[ 1] 11.00-12.00 sec 1.95 KBytes 16.0 Kbits/sec 10=26.985/4.449/70.853/27.375 ms 0 14K/18099 us 37 rps
[ 1] 12.00-13.00 sec 1.95 KBytes 16.0 Kbits/sec 10=25.470/3.923/57.769/19.693 ms 0 14K/24556 us 39 rps
[ 1] 13.00-14.00 sec 1.95 KBytes 16.0 Kbits/sec 10=27.182/4.238/58.603/20.649 ms 0 14K/24354 us 36 rps
[ 1] 14.00-15.00 sec 1.95 KBytes 16.0 Kbits/sec 10=26.983/2.890/78.869/28.727 ms 0 14K/25969 us 37 rps
[ 1] 15.00-16.00 sec 1.95 KBytes 16.0 Kbits/sec 10=27.479/2.366/95.744/35.931 ms 0 14K/25100 us 36 rps
[ 1] 16.00-17.00 sec 1.95 KBytes 16.0 Kbits/sec 10=33.236/3.329/77.317/27.261 ms 0 14K/33368 us 30 rps
[ 1] 17.00-18.00 sec 1.95 KBytes 16.0 Kbits/sec 10=24.111/4.941/62.141/20.289 ms 0 14K/25181 us 41 rps
[ 1] 18.00-19.00 sec 1.95 KBytes 16.0 Kbits/sec 10=19.694/2.870/54.607/15.710 ms 0 14K/21477 us 50 rps
[ 1] 19.00-20.00 sec 1.95 KBytes 16.0 Kbits/sec 10=24.329/3.192/67.937/22.932 ms 0 14K/24606 us 41 rps

Bob
