A nice video by an Australian aviation YouTuber using a mini on Cirrus
single engine plane:

https://youtu.be/Ipdez1Oymn4?si=_8kRc20pJLtD8x5r

Also interesting - although not overly scientific - is that they do seem
to cotton on to the fact that download rates depend on how many other
users are around.

I also wouldn't take it for gospel that you don't need any special
permits to install the unit - Australia's traditionally pretty laid back
when it comes to what you put into your aircraft.

I remember an old video from 2022 showing the same with the (modified )actuated dish.

In the US, you're not allowed to do this unless it's installed in an easily removable location and it's not going to fall easily or otherwise distract the pilot.

If you want a permanent install you have to pay for recertification.

if it's qualified (or can be justified) as a *portable* electronic
device---so have it mounted, even inside the aircraft, is
questionable, but at least the ku-band does not affect civil aviation
