A nice video by an Australian aviation YouTuber using a mini on Cirrus
single engine plane:

Also interesting - although not overly scientific - is that they do seem
to cotton on to the fact that download rates depend on how many other
users are around.
I also wouldn't take it for gospel that you don't need any special
permits to install the unit - Australia's traditionally pretty laid back
when it comes to what you put into your aircraft.
